Local Sport to benefit from $4.6 million investment

Initiatives which focus on increasing participation in sport through events, development programs and facilities are the focus of the latest round of the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, said this was a fantastic opportunity for local sporting organisations to seek the funding they need to enhance their programs and facilities.

“The NSW Government understands that community sporting clubs have done it particularly tough over the past 18 months and we are continuing to provide the assistance needed to further develop their membership base and overall functionality,” Mr Coure said.

“Community sport has always been the heart and soul of the St George region and our ongoing investments will continue to pave the way for up and coming talent from across all ages, locations and abilities.”

Minister for Sport, Natalie Ward, said more than $4.6 million is available to local sporting clubs to make their ideas about boosting participation a reality, as COVID restrictions ease.

“We know sport has great health, social and economic advantages and we are looking to strengthen our local sporting communities as we plan for the future,” Minister Ward said.

“This funding will support projects at grassroots sporting clubs which are driving participation opportunities, so that more people in NSW can enjoy the benefits of being involved in sport.”

The NSW Government funded more than 930 projects across the State through the last round of the Local Sport Grant Program.

“A variety of initiatives were funded across our local community through the last round of the program, including female basketball uniforms for the St George Basketball Association, portable goals for the Lugarno Football Club and the purchase of equipment, signage and uniforms for the Oatley RSL Netball Club,” Mr Coure said.

Successful clubs can receive funding of up to $20,000, with up to $50,000 available for each electorate throughout NSW.

Applications are now open and close on Friday, 19 November 2021.
