Local seniors recognised for their community service

A total of nine individuals from the Oatley Seniors organisation have been recognised as part of the NSW Seniors Festival Local Achievement Awards for 2021.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, was honoured to visit the Norm and Beryl Butters Senior Citizens Centre in Oatley, to present these awards during the NSW Seniors Festival.

“These recipients embody the qualities of senior citizens that make our community the best place to live, work and raise a family,” Mr Coure said.

“It was a privilege to recognise the outstanding contributions of these individuals over a number of years. These fine men and women have ensured that our senior community has remained social during the difficult past 12 months that we have had.”

The award winners for 2021 were selected from a range of individuals with differing levels of experience in a variety of contribution areas. These recipients include:

• Lifetime Achievement Award – Belle Goodacre
• Health & Wellbeing Award – Julia O’Delli
• Community Service Award – David Suba
• New Comer Award – Janice Gregory, Ian Gregory, Niver Rodriguez and Miryam Rodriguez
• 15 Years in Oatley Seniors – Iris York
• 10 Years in Oatley Seniors – Nola Suba

Minister for Seniors, Geoff Lee, said the awards program and festival are key initiatives in the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting seniors.

“NSW has an ageing population and our vision is to create a State where residents experience the benefits of living longer, while being able to contribute, be included and actively participate in their communities,” Minister Lee said.

The NSW Seniors Festival ran from 13 – 24 April 2021 and it is the largest festival for seniors in the Southern Hemisphere.
