Little Green Thumbs at Narwee Public School join Rail Revegetation

Member for Oatley, Mr Mark Coure, today joined students from Narwee Public School to plant 12 new trees in the school’s garden as part of the NSW Government’s environmental commitment to replace vegetation removed during the Narwee Station upgrade.

“The year four to six students will now nurture the saplings as they grow into trees at the school, which is located just a few streets away from the station, currently undergoing a major facelift as part of the Transport Access Program, an initiative to provide safe, modern and accessible public transport infrastructure,” said Mr Coure.

“Along with Transport for NSW’s delivery partner Arenco, which is undertaking the work at the station, I am pleased the trees, which were removed as an unavoidable necessity during the work, have been replaced at a nearby location where they will add to the green footprint of the area.

“Work at Narwee Station is nearing completion and includes a new lift and accessible family toilet, making it significantly easier for less mobile customers, including people with disabilities, parents with prams and travellers with luggage to access public transport services.”

Other work to improve access at the station has seen the existing accessible parking spaces in the commuter car park upgraded, along with improved CCTV coverage and new wayfinding signage installed.

“There are also new canopies for weather protection above the lift plus new shelters, and additional bicycle racks have boosted the facilities for those who ride to the station,” said Mr Coure.

“All this work is in addition to upgrades to bus stops, the kiss and ride and taxi zones and improvements to footpaths through the subway and on both sides of the station which was delivered in 2011.”

Since the launch of the Transport Access Program in April 2012, more than 450 projects have been delivered or are currently underway across NSW.
