what's happening / news / King Georges Road Upgrades now completed!
The long-awaited upgrade of King Georges Road between Stoney Creek Road, Beverly Hills and Forest Road, Hurstville is now officially open to motorists.
Member for Oatley, Mark Coure MP, welcomed the completion of the upgrade, noting the project will deliver a major boost to safety, travel times and congestion relief for thousands of local motorists.
“King Georges Road is one of the busiest roads in our area and we promised to upgrade it at the 2019 election. It is so wonderful to see it is finally completed,” Mr Coure said.
“Anyone who drives this road knows how badly this upgrade was needed. It’s been talked about for well over 60 years, so I’m glad to say that we could get it done.”
As a part of the upgrades, the road has been widened to three lanes in both directions. The upgrade also saw the installation of new footpaths, street lighting, kerbs and drainage, upgraded turning lanes and improved signage.
A new concrete median now separates traffic, increasing safety for all road users.
“This means safer conditions, reduced congestion, shorter travel times and more capacity to support our growing community,” Mr Coure said.
He also thanked residents and local businesses for their patience throughout the construction period.
“I know the works were disruptive at times, but the end result is a safer, more efficient King Georges Road that will benefit our community for decades to come.”
