Kids At Play Project Now in Action at St George Hospital

Children receiving care at St George Hospital can now enjoy a new outdoor play space with the launch of the Kids at Play Project.

Mark Coure, Member for Oatley officially opened the new ‘Fishtail’ outdoor play area with Hospital staff and members of the Rotary Club of Hurstville.

The Kids at Play Project was established by the Rotary Club of Hurstville and aims to create improved recreational and clinical spaces within the Children’s Ward of St George Hospital.

It has been Rotary’s been main charity initiative for several years and has been supported by sales from the Rotary run Mulga Road Book Shop in Oatley.

The first stage of the project was launched today which includes two refurbished play areas and a parent’s retreat room.

The State Government donated $50,000 to the project which was backed up by proceeds from Georges River Council’s 2018 Mayoral Ball.

The second and third stage of the project will see the establishment of the Fairy Sparkle Garden and a combined clinic space.

“Research shows that play is a vital part of a child’s recovery, allowing them to break out of the Hospital environment and focus on recreation,” Mr Coure said.

“The Kids at Play Project is a great initiative to improve recreational and clinical spaces in the Children’s Ward and is an important part of the on-going works at the Hospital.”

“I would like to thank Hurstville Rotary for their continued efforts to support this project and I am proud to have helped bring the first stage to fruition.”
