Funding Boost For Shopfront Arts

As part of the NSW Government’s $9.37 million investment in the State’s arts and cultural sector through Round 1 of Create NSW’s 2021/22 Arts and Cultural Funding Program, Shopfront Arts has received an injection of $42,000 towards an important program within our community.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, said that the funding will provide further opportunities and pathways for emerging theatre artists from across the St George community.

“Shopfront Arts is an outstanding local organisation that is encouraging local residents to get involved in theatre whilst providing industry leading programs and teaching,” Mr Coure said.

“The funding will directly benefit their Harness ensemble which will present a new work following an extensive professional skills and creative development program.”

Chief Executive Officer of Shopfront Arts, Daniel Potter, highlighted the importance of this funding for the organisation.

"The Shopfront Harness Ensemble are the next generation of cultural voices for NSW and are fabulous community connected young people from our local area. This support from the NSW Government will allow these young people to build strong careers and represent our area on the national stage for years to come," Mr Potter said.

Minister for the Arts, Don Harwin, announced 198 recipients will share in $9,371,594 in funding that will deliver record arts and cultural activity across NSW, contributing to the State’s broader economic recovery.

“NSW audiences, artists and creatives are set to benefit from the funding announced today, including 44 per cent going to projects in regional NSW and Western Sydney,” Minister Harwin said.

“We are investing in 198 programs which will create jobs for 17,000 arts and culture workers, boosting our State’s economic rebound. NSW is set up for a brilliant 2022.”

In the 2021/22 Budget, the NSW Government committed an additional $6 million per year to the Arts and Cultural Funding Program. This includes a permanent 10% increase in investment for projects and programs through the competitive assessment rounds.
