Education Week at Mortdale Public School

Member for Oatley Mark Coure and Minister for Education Rob Stokes MP visited Mortdale Public School today as part of Education Week celebrations.

Mr Coure and Mr Stokes met students, student leaders and staff at the school, and visited classes to watch a range of learning activities.

Education Week runs from 6-10 August and is an important time to recognise the contribution public schools make to our local community.

The theme for this year’s event is “Today’s schools – creating tomorrow’s world” to highlight how NSW public schools equip young people with the skills and capabilities they need to thrive in the future.

Mr Coure said Mortdale Public School was a prime example of how local schools are supporting students to learn and achieve their best.

“Students and teachers at Mortdale Public School show us what our public education system is capable of in creating the citizens and leaders of tomorrow,” Mr Coure said.

“I congratulate and commend them for the tireless work they do for their school and our local community.”

Mr Stokes said it was vital to equip students and schools for a rapidly changing world.

“We want our children to succeed now and into the future, and we are working hard to provide the resources they need to thrive,” Mr Stokes said.

The NSW Government is delivering record funding for school education including $13.8 billion for government primary and secondary schools in 2018-19.

In addition, the NSW Government is delivering a record $6 billion school building program over the next four years, which will deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support communities throughout NSW. This is the largest investment into public school infrastructure by any state government in Australian history.
