Member for Oatley, Mark Coure MP, is calling on the Minns Labor Government to urgently restore face-to-face housing support services in Riverwood, following the closure of the local Housing Office nearly two years ago.
Mr Coure said the closure has left many residents struggling to access support, hitting seniors and people with disabilities particularly hard.
“Since the Riverwood Housing Office closed, I have heard from countless residents who are finding it harder to get the help when they need it most,” Mr Coure said.
“For many locals, travelling to the Hurstville office simply isn’t an option. These residents deserve access to timely, in-person housing support right here in their community.”
The Riverwood office previously assisted tenants with tenancy matters, maintenance issues and general housing enquiries. Mr Coure said its closure has left a noticeable gap in service delivery across the area.
In addition to service concerns, the former Housing Office building has remained vacant for approximately two years and has become increasingly prone to vandalism and break-ins.
“It’s unacceptable that a public facility has been sitting empty and deteriorating for years while residents continue to go without support,” Mr Coure said.
“The Minns Labor Government must act now to reopen the Riverwood Housing Office and restore vital face-to-face services for our local tenants.”
Mr Coure has written to the Minister for Housing, formally requesting that the Government prioritise the reopening of the site to ensure that Riverwood residents are not left behind.
