what's happening / news / COMMUNITY WIN - ROUTE OF FORMER 944 SERVICE WILL BE RESTORED
Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, has welcomed Transport for NSW’s decision to restore the former 944 bus route after it was cut by the NSW Labor Government.
Transport for NSW has confirmed it will reconnect Peakhurst Heights with Riverwood Station and Roselands Shopping Centre. The service is expected to commence within the next two to three months, operating at a similar frequency to the former 944 service and including additional trips for students.
Mr Coure said the announcement was a major victory for the local community after launching the Save Our Buses campaign, which attracted more than 1,200 petition signatures.
“When the NSW Labor Government cut the 944 and other local bus services, our community was rightly outraged. Residents suddenly lost a direct connection to Riverwood Station, Roselands Shopping Centre, schools and essential services,” Mr Coure said.
“Labor got this one wrong. They cut an essential local service that people relied on every day. I’m pleased the Government has finally listened to our community and agreed to restore this important connection.”
“This is a significant win and an important first step, but there is still more work to do. I’ll continue fighting to restore the bus services our community has lost and to ensure locals have the reliable public transport they deserve.”
“I want to sincerely thank everyone who shared their support by signing the petition, contacting my office, sharing our posts and speaking up.”
