Carss Park Swimming Pool overlooked in 2025-26 State Budget

Local families are frustrated after the recent state budget included no mention of funding for the Carss Park Swimming Pool.

The Swimming Pool was closed in 2019 and demolished in 2024, with the land having sat vacant, despite funding commitments from Georges River Council.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, said that the NSW Labor Government must come to the table and stop leaving the community in the dark.

“For decades, this pool serviced the St George Community, welcoming hundreds of thousands of locals, many of whom learnt to swim there when they were young. It is disappointing to see so much uncertainty about its future,” Mr Coure said.

“Georges River Council has done its part and I commend them on their fine efforts. Despite being a local government with limited resources, they have committed $10 million over three years towards the construction of a new aquatic facility at the site.”

“However, we are still waiting on the NSW Labor Government to come to the table and fund this project so that locals can continue to enjoy this space, as they have done for over 60 years.”

Before the last State Election, the former Liberal and National Government promised over $40 Million to rebuild the pool.

“Chris Minns is all spin and no substance. He says he wants the pool to be rebuilt and then doesn’t provide any funding in the budget to make it happen,” Mr Coure said.

“The NSW Labor Government cannot leave another generation of children without a place to learn to swim and keep telling seniors and families that their needs are not a priority.”

“I am calling on the Government to commit to funding and rebuilding the Carss Park Swimming Pool as a matter of urgency.”
