A huge boost for transport, jobs and our economy

Work to upgrade the Mortdale Maintenance Centre as part of the More Trains More Services Package has now recommenced in a COVID-safe manner, to keep the project moving.

Member for Oatley, Mark Coure, is pleased to see that construction is continuing with a core focus on safeguarding the welfare of workers at all times.

“This upgrade to the Mortdale Maintenance Centre will enable the entire Tangara fleet to be serviced right here in the heart of the St George region,” Mr Coure said.

“The project will improve our transport network, stimulate our economy and provide ongoing employment for local residents and their families.”

“It is great to see that this important project is continuing, while making sure that employees can remain safe on-site and that the wellbeing of our community is protected.”

Some new safety procedures implemented include: reducing staff to 50% of the maximum daily workforce, mandatory wearing of face masks indoors and outdoors and requiring staff from LGAs of concern to provide proof of vaccination and testing in line with the Public Health Order.

Construction of the bogie exchange tunnels and the upgrading of the electrical substation will continue.

“The installation of service routes and a new high voltage electrical pole will support an increased electrical capacity which is critical to the operation of the site.”

“Components of the upgrades which were on hold in July and early August have now been rescheduled with a focus on minimising the impact on the project as a whole.”

In preparation for the construction of a new site access entrance off Hurstville Road, an exclusion zone beside the existing centre boundary fence will be implemented to allow the construction team to safely remove vegetation.

Traffic controllers will provide alternate access arrangements for pedestrians to allow them to safely bypass the exclusion zone.

“It is fantastic to see that construction is running smoothly with clear plans in place to support the delivery of this project in a COVID-safe manner moving forward.”
